Cardio connections

What touches our hearts—and how and why we love—at times seems mysterious. Research, however, is helping us to understand more clearly how to take care of our cardiac health.

“It has become increasingly evident that interrelationships—between different body organs and systems, between genetics and environment, and between the mind and body—are crucial in both health and disease,” writes Helene Langevin, MD, director of the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Dr. Langevin was introducing a lecture detailing how “psychosocial stress is a cardiovascular risk factor comparable in importance to hypertension, elevated lipid levels, smoking, or diabetes.”

Because so many turn to yoga therapy for help managing stress—and because February is American Heart Month—now is a good time to learn about and start taking great care of your heart and the rest of your cardiovascular system.
