Nonprofit supports individuals with MS and their caregivers through yoga therapy

Yoga can support individuals with MS through decreasing fatigue, improving muscle strength, and improving quality of life

In this article Mindy Eisenberg, MHSA, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT, shares her story of starting Yoga Moves MS, a nonprofit that offers free adaptive yoga classes for people with MS and their caregivers. The organization makes yoga both accessible and affordable for those affected by neuromuscular disorders. Classes are funded completely by donations.

Eisenberg cites small-group classes that focus on strengthening and flexibility as key to success. But she also notes that these therapeutic classes build a sense of agency and bolster social support.

“‘Many people are good friends now,’ Eisenberg said of the program’s participants, who range in age from 18 to those in their 70s. ‘You have the support of everyone around you.'”
